1983 Graduated from Tongji University and dispatched to work in Road Planning and Design Institute of Ministry of Communications

1987 Studied in California University of the States, obtained master's degree and doctor's degree successively, worked as communications and transportation specialist in China Bureau Communications and Transportation Specialist in World Bank.

1992 Served as Chief engineer, director assistant, vice director of Road Planning and Design Institute and Vice Director of Planning Research Institute of Ministry of Communications after returning China

1983年同济大学毕业后分配至交通部公路规划设计院工作。

1987年考入美国加利福尼亚大学学习，先后获硕土和博士学位。毕业后任世界银行中国局交通运输处交通运输专家。

1992年回国后，先后任交通部公路规划设计院副总工程师、院长助理、副院长、规划研究院副院长。

2001年任交通部规划研究院院长。

2003年任交通部公路司司长。

2007年任中共长沙市委副书记、市政府代市长。

2008年当选为长沙市人民政府市长。

第八届、第九届全国政协委员，第十届、十一届全国人大代表。

分管工作: 主持市政府全面工作，负责审计、机构编制等方面工作。
