To implement the guidelines and policies of the Party Central Committee and State Council related to the retired officials work; to work with relevant departments to formulate and implement the political and living treatment for the retired officials; to organize the retired officials to read ,learn and participate in political activities; to strengthen the party organizational construction and ideological and political work of the retired officials; to be responsible for ensuring the medical care , living benefits , relaxation and vehicle service for the retired officials; to organize cultural and sports activities for the retired officials of this Ministry; to work with relevant departments to deal with the matters concerned with the funerals for the deceased retired officials; to guide the organizations directly under this Ministry to do the retired official work ;to be responsible for the daily work of the retired officials’ joint meetings.
贯彻党中央、国务院有关离退休干部工作的方针、政策，会同有关部门拟订并落实离退休干部政治生活待遇。组织离退休干部阅读、学习文件和参加政治活动，加强离退休干部党组织建设和思想政治工作。负责离退休干部的医疗保健、生活福利、休养和用车等服务保障工作。组织、协调部机关离退休干部的文化、体育活动。会同有关部门办理离退休干部的丧葬和善后处理事宜。指导直属单位离退休干部工作。负责离退休干部工作联席会议的日常工作。
